But Carrie, the letter “L” doesn’t say “luh”! Don’t you even know what you’re doing??? OK, I’ve been getting this question a lot, so I’m going to answer it in a video. There is a difference between teaching a child to speak a sound, and to recognize the sound that a letter makes. I am working on the former. #speechtherapy #speechlanguagepathologist #slpa #schoolslp #slpeeps #slp2be #articulationtherapy
Replying to @its.graceed how to teach the /rl/ sound combo. This one is so hard! Don’t worry about teaching this one until they are at least seven years old. The trick is to teach the R sound by itself and the L sound by itself before combining them together to make the RL blend. #slpsoftiktok #speechtherapy #speechlanguagepathologist #slpa #speechdelay #articulation
/k/ and /g/ elicitation with a sucker! If a child is having trouble saying, the K & G sounds, you can use a sucker to help them hold down the tip of their tongue, so the back part of the tongue will do the work. Once the child can do this, you can gradually work on taking the sucker out, and still producing the sound the same way #slpsoftiktok #speechtherapy #speechlanguagepathologist #slpa #speechdelay #articulationtherapy

Still stuck on trying to get that great /s/ sound for a child? This tip is great for finding a natural /s/position that is already established in the child’s speech. ##speechlanguagepathologist##schoolslp##slp2be##speechtherapy##slpa##articulation##lisp##articulationtherapy
Are you making speech therapy harder than it needs to be? Practicing speech sounds during conversation helps to make our therapy more practical and relevant to their every day life. This can also help them make faster progress. Keep in mind you don’t have to wait until you are at the conversational level in therapy to practice sounds during conversation. You can pull out single words from their conversational speech and have them practice just that word. plus, this gives you an easy way to work on speech sounds without having to do any prep work at all. #speechtherapy #speechlanguagepathologist #speechlanguagepathology #slpa #slpeeps #slpsoftiktok #slpmom #articulationtherapy
Read on for info on teaching the /s/ sound! This is a great strategy for Working on frontal lisps and lateral lisps. Using the straw helps the child understand where to put their tongue and how to direct the airflow out the front of the mouth instead of over the lateral sides of the tongue. The idea is to use a strategy like this to help the child get the correct placement for /s/ and then help them maintain that placement and production without the straw. Once they can say the sound correctly by itself without the straw, you can work on saying that sound in syllables, then words, then sentences. Speech therapy for a frontal lisp: A frontal lisp is when a child is sticking their tongue out between their teeth to produce the /s/ and /z/ sounds. Check out my tips in this video for how to help a child produce the /s/ sound with their tongue tip behind their teeth. Replying to @Ally Cahill That’s called backing! We can fix that in speech therapy too. We want to help the child understand where to put their tongue for the sound and the best way to do. This is to give tactile cues such as touching the spot with a lollipop. Once they can get their tongue tip to that position, we can help them make the /t/ sound in that spot. Have them practice the sound by itself over and over again until they can do it consistently. Then we can start saying it in single words. #slpsoftiktok #speechlanguagepathologist #slpa #speechtherapy #articulationtherapy #slpgradstudent
What sounds do we target with cycles? When using the cycles approach to phonological therapy, there are five recommended phonological processes, that you target first. These are the ones that are more likely to help improve a child’s intelligibility quickly.
