I love using the Bjorem Speech Sound Cues to teach the /s/. Tell your child to keep their tongue behind their top teeth. Next, ask them to make the /t/ sound or “tick tock” sound again, only this time push the air out longer. This will turn into the “flat tire” or “ts” sound. Using @bjoremspeech cue cards during speech therapy when practicing r vs w. This client is demonstrating a phonological process we call gliding. Gliding is when a child substitutes a glide sound (w or y) for a liquid (l or r). Some common examples of this are “yike” for “like” or “wug” for “rug”. This was the first session we worked on these sounds and overall he did SO great. We spent some time going over the two sounds and introducing them so that he knew what the cues were and how they were different. When I introduce new sounds I like to explain how the sounds are produced so that I can give specific feedback to them as well if they do make an error.
