I’ve spent the most incredible day with @kitchencoosandewes getting up close and personal with these Highland Cows. Their tours are designed to help you get close to the Highland cattle from the safety and comfort of a purpose built trailer – it’s basically a Highland cow safari! Janet and Neale have an incredible knowledge and passion for these amazing animals. Highland cattle are iconic and beautiful to look at, and the way they graze is really good for the environment too. If you love Highland Coos, give @Kitchen Coos & Ewes a follow for coo heaven. Not an ad, just a recommendation of a truly incredible experience. 🐮 #andythehighlander #highlandertours #Scotland #scottish #scottishhistory #outlander #kilt #meninkilts #visitscotland #scottishhighlands #highlander #jacobite #greatkilt #highlandcow #highlandcows #coosday #highlandcoo #kitchenewesandcoos
This is a traditional Gaelic love song called “Cadal cha dèan mi” which translates to “Sleep I cannot get”. A tragic song, it tells the story of a woman who lost her love, when he was drowned at sea. She describes climbing Càrn Bàn to see the Point of Stoer, from which her lover’s ship sailed and how he saved the other sailors when their boat hit the rocks. “Sleep evades me, And I am far from merry; Tonight I won’t find peace For my sweetheart comes not to me. It was not dark nor red hair, That my darling had He was fair, The one who broke my heart. Writer with a pen, Author of the pages, Mariner of the high seas, He could speed a ship to sailing I climbed a high hill, And found a place to sit there Round the Point of Storr, Where sail the big ships. She struck upon the beach, Where the dulce grows, You leaped out my darling, And saved them all. Last year I was healthy, But this year I am broken. My love’s ship is on the shore, In a thousand pieces I heard a story, That brought tears from my heart. You going away, Without expecting to return. Sleep comes not to me And I am far from merry; Tonight I won’t find peace For my sweetheart comes not to me. source:joydunlop.com #gaelic #scottish #Scotland #isleoflewis #isleofharris #visitscotland #andythehighlander #highlandertours

Europe’s smallest castle? Welcome to Hermit’s castle! “Hermit’s Castle can be described in many ways. It’s been called Europe’s smallest castle: though, despite the name, calling it a “castle” is stretching it a little. A possibly more accurate description is that it is a remarkable concrete folly built in a Brutalist style that blends in a very surprising way into its rocky shoreside setting. What adds to its attraction is the slight air of mystery that surrounds it. The bare facts behind its presence in this location are fairly clear (though not universally agreed upon), but the important question about why it came to be built here seems to have gone unanswered. The story goes that in 1950 an architect from Norwich, David Scott, decided to build himself a small concrete bothy here. It is said that he brought materials in by boat and that it took him six months to single-handedly build the structure whose remains can be seen today. This all rather overlooks questions we’ve never seen answered. Why did David Scott want to build his Hermit’s Castle here? And, having spent six months building it, why did he - as the story goes - spend just a weekend staying in it before leaving, never to return? What you find when you arrive is a truly unique structure, whose size is very difficult to understand as you approach. It looks like it should be much bigger than it turns out to be. The narrow entrance is around the seaward side of the structure. This leads you into a short passage and, beyond the doorframe referred to earlier, to the single small room, just large enough for a concrete single bed platform and a fireplace that (oddly) seems to include shelving. Welcome to one of the strangest and most intriguing buildings you will ever visit!” Caption source: www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/lochinver/hermitscastle/ #Scotland #history #hermitscastle #andythehighlander #highlandertours #visitscotland #nc500route
The original Highlander! Today marks the anniversary of the release of the 1986 cult classic “Highlander” so I felt it would be a good time to share this one with you all again! It starred Frenchman Christopher Lambert as Scotsman Connor MacLeod and Scotsman Sean Connery as Spaniard Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez - resulting in a particularly unique range of accents! An 80s classic 🏴 #highlander #Scotland #christopherlambert #seanconnery #andythehighlander

The Scottish Great Kilt and the Indian Sari may come from different parts of the world, but both are powerful symbols of cultural heritage. Filmed with my wonderful friend Harvinder @Romi - these traditional garments are similar not just in how they’re worn, but in what they represent. After I posted my first ‘kilt video’ I had lots of comments mentioning that there were similarities between the Great Kilt and the Sari, today we get to see them side by side! Both are unstitched lengths of fabric, draped and tied to the body. Both carry stories of resilience, identity, and ancestral knowledge passed down through generations, and both make you feel connected to something. Let me know what you think, and if there’s another cultural connection you’d love to see explored next! #kilt #sari #Scotland #india #andythehighlander #visitscotland #indian #greatkilt #saree
