I love the “scrunchy mom” posts — because that’s me! I think that we are all *more similar* than social media makes us out to be sometimes. No matter what kind of mom you are, though, I hope you PLAY. We are designed to be mothers. Not only are we physically created to carry, birth, and nurture babies — but also to PLAY with and TEACH children as they grow. I’ve been making a point to actively lead and engage in pretend play with the boys for hours at a time — and I can only describe it as *chemically mind altering*. I’ve noticed my stress levels decrease. My bond with them has grown tremendously. And I feel LESS “mom brain,” even though I’m still waking through the night with Gus. Specifically we’ve been playing pirates 🏴☠️ and going on expeditions. We have a whole storyline going 😅 I want to hear from other moms who get REALLY into pretend play, too — and hear if you’ve had similar experiences with this. It feels so natural and SO therapeutic! If you haven’t been doing it, I’d also love to hear if you try it after seeing this post. It doesn’t have to be pirates— you can take cues from your child. But giving the game your 100% attention, without letting your mind wander — and see how it feels! Arggh, mateys!
