About The World Health Organization said Mp3 Sound Effect

The World Health Organization said on Friday, August 29 that it has run out of critical medical supplies needed to treat a surge in cases of a rare paralysis-causing syndrome in Gaza. Since June there have been 94 documented cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) in Gaza — rarely seen in the enclave prior to the war — resulting in ten deaths, the World Health Organization said. GBS is a rare condition, more common in adults, where a person's immune system attacks the peripheral nerves. Severe cases of GBS can result in near-total paralysis and breathing problems, according to the WHO. The surge in the syndrome has primarily been driven by gastrointestinal and respiratory infections, closely linked to the deteriorating water, sanitation, and hygiene conditions, the WHO stated. Overcrowding and compromised immunity in the population, compounded by rising malnutrition cases, are also factors, the WHO said. A report released on Friday by a global hunger monitor, Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, said about 514,000 people - nearly a quarter of Gaza's population - face famine conditions in Gaza City and surrounding areas. | via Reuters Video courtesy: UNTV via Reuters #GMAIntegratedNews
